Westport Public School School Council consists of parent, staff and community representatives. 

School Councils are an integral part of schooling and represent an essential partnership between parents, staff, the wider community and students.

The School Council participates in:

bulletidentifying local educational needs and priorities; 
bulletassessing the school's financial needs and expenditure;
bulletsetting the broad policy directions, aims and educational goals of the school;
bulletparticipating in the framing of school plans, associated budgets and their subsequent endorsement;
bulletestablishing effective liaison with other school/community committees to promote activities consistent with school policies;
bulletconsulting and advising on the range of curriculum options available to the school;
bulletproviding advise on school policy regarding the reporting of achievement;
bulletdeveloping and endorsing student welfare policies;
bulletproviding guidance on supplementary services required by the school;
bulletdetermining school policy on matters such as the community use of school facilities;
bulletparticipating in staff selection procedures as appropriate;
bulletpresenting and promoting a positive image of the school &
bulletestablishing a sense of community so that the school and its community share a cooperative sense of purpose.
