Canteen Excellence in a Caring Environment

Westport's canteen has been awarded a Diamond Award from the NSW School Canteen Association for Promoting and Providing a Healthy Food Service each year since 2003. This great achievement has been maintained by Robyn and the volunteers following the guidelines for a healthy canteen. To be accredited there are a range of things that need to be done and our canteen is doing them all. Firstly the canteen must be registered with NSWSCA, follow their guidelines and promote and sell their registered products. Secondly, the school canteen must have promotional days. These promotional days include theme days and food tasting . The canteen at Westport has a breakfast program for students called the Go for Gold Brekky Club. It operates from 8.35am allowing the children breakfast which includes cereal, toast and juice or milk. To make things fun for the children, Westport's canteen holds theme days such as Footy Day. We also participate in "Healthy Bones Week" and the "Fruit and Veggie Campaign" where students receive stickers when they purchase dairy products and fruit and vegetables. Overall Westport's canteen can proudly claim that they are the only school in the district with the breakfast club program and the staff members at the canteen are qualified in the food handling/hygiene regulations.
Well done and thanks to our Diamond Award Canteen!
